Choosing a WhatsApp Business API partner

The single decision that matters most is whose Meta Business Manager your number ends up inside. Here is how the options compare.

Almost every WhatsApp API problem we are asked to fix traces back to one early decision: whose Meta Business Manager the WhatsApp Business Account was created inside. If it sits in a provider's account, then your number, your message templates and your hard-won quality rating effectively belong to them. Moving later is possible but painful, and some providers make it deliberately slow.

There are three common routes. A BSP reseller is quick to start and bundles an inbox, but usually creates the account inside their own umbrella and charges a per-message markup on top of Meta's rates. A general web agency will connect an off-the-shelf tool, which is fine for simple broadcasting but tends to stall at Coexistence, template rejections or anything needing real API work. A direct Cloud API specialist sets the account up under your own Business Manager and integrates the API into your product.

We are the third. We have migrated live WhatsApp Business Accounts off BSP platforms onto direct Cloud API access under the client's own Business Manager, kept the number and the quality rating intact, and handled the parts that are genuinely undocumented — partner-only fields that fail an entire API call, manual-connect flows that skip registration, and template categories that quietly cause rejections.

Why does it matter whose Business Manager the WhatsApp account sits in?

Because whoever owns the Business Manager effectively controls the number, the approved templates and the quality rating. If that is your provider, changing provider can mean changing the number your customers already know. Set it up under your own Business Manager from the start and this problem never exists.

Can we keep using WhatsApp on our phone after connecting the API?

Yes — this is called Coexistence, and it requires linking an existing WhatsApp Business account rather than creating a new one. Done in the right order you keep the app, the chat history and the same number while the API runs alongside.

Can our number be moved off our current provider?

Usually yes. We have migrated live accounts onto direct Cloud API access under the client's own Business Manager while keeping the number and quality rating. It needs care and the right sequence, but it is very rarely impossible.

Is a BSP ever the right choice?

Yes — if you want simple broadcasting with no engineering, want it running this week, and are comfortable with the markup and the lock-in. It is a legitimate trade. It stops being right the moment you need custom integration or the message volume makes the markup expensive.

Why do our message templates keep getting rejected?

Usually category mismatch — a marketing message submitted as utility — or variables that Meta reads as opaque. Both are fixable by rewriting rather than appealing, and getting them right first time is most of the value an experienced partner adds.
