Can you work on our old PHP system?
Yes, and it is a large part of our work. We start by adding tests around current behaviour so a refactor cannot silently change what the business depends on.
Should we upgrade or rewrite?
Almost always upgrade. A rewrite discards every bug fix and edge case already handled. We recommend rewriting only when the stack is genuinely unsupported or unsafe.
