Yes — that is the normal starting condition for this work. We read the code, run it, and reconstruct how it works. Missing documentation slows the audit slightly; it does not stop it.
Our app was built on a platform that shut down. Is it recoverable?
Usually yes, if you can get the source or a build. We have taken over apps whose original platform no longer exists, moved them onto infrastructure you control, and resumed releases.
Should we rewrite instead?
Rarely, and we will tell you honestly. A rewrite throws away working behaviour and every bug fix already made. We recommend it only when the stack is genuinely dead or unsafe.
How much does this cost?
Most single-scope builds land between $2,500 and $4,000 as a fixed price. Multi-location or heavily integrated work runs $10,000 to $25,000, and a full platform build is $25,000 to $50,000. Once live, managed support is $900 to $1,500 a month. We quote fixed scope so you are not exposed to an open-ended hourly meter.
